Money| We lose what on ourselves we spend;
We have a Treasure without end, whatever Lord to Thee we lend, Who givest all |
Whatever Lord we lend to Thee
repaid a thousandfold will be: Then gladly will we give to Thee Giver of all |
These verses by Christopher Wordsworth
have, for some reason, been left out of his Hymn:
O Lord of Heaven and Earth
and Sea (337 in Hymns and Psalms).
Pity, since I am sure God is
less interested in the amount we might put in the Church Collection
(even if the Biblical 10%) than
He is in what we do with the rest!
Jesus said:
Where your treasure is there will your heart be also (Luke
Ch 12 v 34)
If
we seek treasure in what we own and in self fulfilment we cannot claim
to be
following Jesus. But the hymn
is wrong to suggest that we lend our
treasure to Jesus.
Rather God lends
it to us and watches what we do with it.
What a very frightening thought?
