Memories of St Andrew's Epworth

Here Samuel Wesley was rector,
but the altar was not like this

However John and Charles did receive their first communion from this chalice.
Later they will have used it themselves. But after Samuel had died,
John was not allowed to preach in the church
and so he preached from his father's tomb outside.

Before the present altar was installed there was in Wesley's time a simple table.
This is now in the Wesley Methodist Memorial Church
